The Centre for Doctrine and Command is a decentralised body of the French Army Staff under the authority of the French Army Major General. It is the reference body for the army's employment doctrine. As the guarantor of higher military education for land forces and a vector of influence, its overall aim is to promote military thinking for the benefit of the operational effectiveness of land forces.
The Centre takes part in discussions on the future action of land forces
and on foresight concerning the Army. It draws up and disseminates the doctrine for the use of land forces in their joint, interministerial and inter-allied environment. It leads thinking on general tactics and contributes to thinking on military history for teaching purposes. Finally, it steers the national outreach of the French Army.
The Centre joined the French Defence University in 2022.
