While maintaining their operational commitments all around the world, they are determined to maintain all the know-how and procedures related to the specific missions that will be entrusted to them by the political authorities to make these Games a success.

In particular, they will be leaders in airspace protection and anti-drone warfare, as well as in the maritime environment. On the ground, the armed forces will make a significant contribution to the protection of the venues, in support of the domestic security forces.

For the security of the 2024 Olympic Games, the French armed forces will help guarantee the protection of the events and the Olympic sites. It will be done in coordination with the forces of the Ministry of the Interior and Overseas Territories with their complementary capabilities and expertise.

These forces are already permanently committed to protecting the French people against everyday risks in support of the domestic security forces. On the ground, about 7,000 Army soldiers are deployed or on alert as part of the ground protection posture.

In addition to the large number of Army personnel, various specialized joint units will be deployed in support of the domestic security forces: dog teams and bomb disposal units to search for and detect explosives, "nuclear, radiological, bacteriological and chemical" specialists, frogmen for waterborne security operations, and so on. The cyber-defence command will also be working for the National Information System Security Agency (ANSSI), and the Defence Training Hospitals will be providing hospital medical support in the vicinity of the Olympic event zones.

In the context of the Permanent Maritime Safety Posture (PPSM), the French Navy is responsible for monitoring and protecting France's maritime approaches on, under and above the water in order to anticipate and counter threats as far away from our coasts as possible. Nearly 3,700 sailors are permanently deployed in mainland France and overseas to monitor, provide information and take action to protect France at sea.

For the Olympic Games, the French Navy will accompany the arrival of the Olympic flame by sea in Marseille on 8th May 2024 and will provide security for the Olympic venues in Marseille and Teahupo'o in Tahiti during the nautical events, using specific maritime security measures. The maritime Prefet for the Mediterranean and the Government’s delegate in French Polynesia will mobilize maritime and air resources for this purpose.

On the national territory, France's air sovereignty is guaranteed by the Air and Space Force (AAE).

On a daily basis, nearly 1,000 airmen and airwomen are permanently involved in this permanent air security posture also known as air policing.

In addition to this permanent mission, there are special aviation security measures, "protection bubbles" set up to ensure air safety for specific events (14th July parade, meetings of Heads of State, major international sporting events, etc.).

To ensure the security of the Olympic Games, the French Air and Space Force will also be responsible for the interdepartmental coordination of all anti-drone measures. It will deploy specific and adapted detection, identification and neutralisation systems to take account of the drone threat.
