General Erwan ROLLAND was born on June 8th 1969 in Fontenay-aux-Roses. He is married and father of three.
He went to the « Ecole Spéciale Militaire de Saint-Cyr Coëtquidan » (Special Military School, Army Academy) in 1990 (promotion Général Guillaume) and graduated as a « Transmission » (Signal Corps) Officer.
After a year of formation at the « Ecole d’Application des Transmissions de Montargis » (Application School of Transmissions) (1993 – 1994), he picked the « Troupes de marine » (Marine Corps) and served as a Lieutenant for the « 6ème régiment de parachutistes d’infanterie de marine » (Marine Paratroopers) in Mont de Marsan. He was deployed in Lebanon and ex-Yougoslavia.
In 1996, he served in the « 33ème régiment d’infanterie de marine » (Marine Regiment) in Martinique as chief of the signal company and deputy to the « Commandant interarmées des transmissions des forces armées aux Antilles » (Joint Signal Commander of the Armed Forces in the Caribean). He was promoted to Captain in 1997.
Moving to the « 41e régiment de Transmissions » (Signal Regiment) in Senlis in 1998, he studies a course of the Captains in the USA before commanding the 3rd Company, with which he is deployed in Qatar and the EAU, in support of the « PC de Force de l’EMIA FE » (FE Joint Staff Force CP).
In 2002, he went to the « Lycée Militaire d’Aix-en-Provence » (Military College), where he commanded the freshmen. He was promoted to « chef de bataillon » (Major OF-3) in 2004.
After passing the Superior Military Teaching exam in 2004, he was deployed in Afghanistan. After that, he followed the « 118 ème promotion du cours supérieur d’état-major » (Military Staff Class), then the « 11ème promotion du collège interarmées de défense » (Joint Defence College).
Affected in 2006 to the « Direction Générale des Systèmes d’Information et de Communication » (General Direction for Information and Communication Systems), as editing officer in the « Sous-Direction de la Stratégie », he was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel (Lt-Col OF 4) in 2007.
He joined the « 48ème régiment de Transmissions » (Signal Regiment) in 2009 in Agen to hold the position of « chef du bureau opérations – instruction » (Chief of the Instruction and Operation Bureau). He was deployed in Lebanon in 2010 as Commanding Officer to the Joint Information and Communication Systems for the DAMAN operation theatre.
In 2011, he was affected in Paris, to serve at the « État-major des Armées » (Defence Staff) as handling officer in the « Section Etudes Opérationnelles de la Division Emploi ». He was promoted to Colonel (COL OF-5) on the same year.
He commanded the « 28ème régiment de Transmissions » (Signal Regiment) of Issoire from 2013 to 2015, with which he was deployed in Sahel, at the head of a Groupement de Transmissions Interarmées (Joint Signal Group) during Operation BARKHANE.
From 2015 to 2016, he served at the « Service Conduite Opérations Exploitation » of the DIRISI (Joint Direction for Defense’s Networks of Infrastructure and Information Systems).
Alumnus to the « 66ème session du Centre des Hautes Études Militaires » (High Military Studies Centre) and to the « 69ème session de l’Institut des Hautes Études de la Défense Nationale » (National Defence High Studies Institute) in 2016, he joined the « Division Cohérence Capacitaire » of the État-major des Armées in 2017.
He was appointed « Général Adjoint-Opérations » (Operation Deputy General) of the « Commandement des Systèmes d’Information et de Communication » (IC Systems Commandement of the Army) on August 1st 2020, and promoted to Général de Brigade (BRIG-GEN OF-6) on September 1st 2020.
From 2022 to 2023 he was appointed as France’s MILREP to SACEUR in MONS, before joining again the DIRISI in August 2023 as Deputy Central Director, and promoted to « Général de division » (MAJ-GEN OF-7).
From September 1st, 2024, he has been appointed as Central Director to the DIRISI, and promoted to the rank of « Général de Corps d’Armée » (LT-GEN OF-8).
