Statement from GDA Philippe ADAM, French Space Commander

Le COMESPACE

The French Space Command is pleased to present the 5th edition of its annual military space exercise.

One of a kind in Europe, AsterX 2025 will qualify our units to military space operations within a complex realistic simulated environment, interconnected with the other domains. This year, the exercise is sequenced into two parts. The first is designed to train a French response to specific threats in a competitive phase, the second aims to strengthen cooperation with allies during a confrontation phase.

The scenario includes 18 simulated events, on all orbits, some of which require a multi-domain approach (MDO). Players will face an aggressive opponent who will force them to find an effective response. New feature for this year’s exercise, an autonomous allied force will require coordination from players in order to achieve their objectives.
Particularly MDO oriented, AsterX 2025 shifts towards an integrated command structure that fully incorporates other domains. As such, maintaining a sufficient level of space support while taking into account all the other constraints and actions will be a major challenge.

Furthermore, commercial and institutional partners, first and foremost CNES (French Space Agency), remain fully mobilised in AsterX, as part of a long-term relationship based on trust and shared interests in space.
Working towards a safe and peaceful space is a major challenge that must be tackled collectively. This is the purpose of AsterX. An exercise that paves the way towards a common space operation culture, allowing us to better understand and confront emerging threats. It illustrates the leading role that France intends to play in the military space domain and it contributes to reinforcing strategic solidarity between allies.
